In science, trait refers to a characteristic that is caused by genetics. Having green eyes or being shorter than average are traits a person might have. In more general use, a trait is an important part of someone's personality or appearance.

Nucleotide, gene, DNA, chromosome

Nucleotides are the building blocks of nucleic acids (such as DNA and RNA), and are made up of a nucleoside that is joined to a phosphate group.  

Genes are an important sequence of nucleotides, and small part of DNA that contains information for a specific protein.  

DNA is a genetic material that stores information as a code which is composed of four chemical bases (adenine (A), guanine (G), cytosine (C), and thymine (T)).  

Chromosomes are thread-like structures in which DNA molecule (nucleic acid) and protein (histones) are packaged in the cell’s nucleus. Chromosomes functions by carrying genetic information in the form of genes.
