In Beowulf, there is a contrast between Herot and Grendel's home.

Herot is equated with God and heaven. It is associated with companionship and good deeds. Herot, then, represents goodness and honor.

Grendel, however, is connected to the devil and his home is associated with hell. He lives isolated and alone. He is said to be a descendent of Cain, meaning that his being is full of sin and evil.

These descriptions set up a conflict of good versus evil.

wlad13 [49]

"Women have increasingly attained higher levels of education and experienced....." This best illustrates the influence culture has on traditional female roles. As the world changes, so does culture. Women do not think to just stay at home and have a domestic life, they now think for themselves and get higher education to get the job they want. Culture has changed and instead of women staying at home, they look for work. This shows how much the traditional female role has changed.
