Create a technical text

English

Answer:

The trashcan in my classroom caught on fire last week. I grabbed the fire extinguisher. Not being the most technical savvy professor on campus, I didn’t exactly know how to use it, so I resorted to reading the instructions. One of my students had replaced the instructions on the extinguisher with the following:

When a fire is burning hotter than bituminous coal in the belly of a furnace and it requires not a little water, you’re in luck, for you have found the metaphorical Balm of Gilead to quench the flaming obstruction.

I always get "The Primary Purpose of this passage is to?" wrong on Reading Comp. I'm guessing this is hurting my score as it seems like a simple questions and I always get it wrong.

Any idea on how to nail this??? I started taking notes during the section and it helps. I know what the passage is about, but trying to stick it into one of those GMAT choices is difficult. Suggestions?

Main Idea/Primary Purpose Questions:
Many people believe there is no difference between the main or central idea of the passage and the primary purpose of the author of the passage. This is simply not true. Let's take a look at the subtle but important difference between them:
Main Idea
The question might look something like this:

"Which of the following best states the central idea of the passage?"
"Which of the following most accurately states the main idea of the passage?"
"Which of the following is the principal topic of the passage?"
"The main topic of the passage is...."

Primary Purpose
The question might look like this:

"The primary purpose of this passage is to..."
"The primary purpose of the passage as a whole is to..."
"The primary focus of this passage is on which of the following?"
"The main concern of the passage is to..."
"In the passage, the author is primarily interested in...."
"The passage is chiefly concerned with..."

Match each transition with its definition/function in a paragraph.
Paraphin [41]
Here are the correct definitions : A, E, D, C, B

On the contrary - To Compare
In addition - To add
For instance - To give an example
Afterward - To show sequence or results
I'm sure it helps!

How have your experiences in education (including teachers and assignments) influenced your goals, attitudes, and values?
Andrei [34K]

Answer:

Throughout school I have always been dedicated and determined to seeking the best grade possible. I like having a positive mindset and setting goals that will allow me to reach further goals. My favorite english teacher helped me create this mindset and allowed me to develop into the student I am today. Holding these goals and participating in a growth mindset has positively influenced my attitude towards school. I no longer see school as a chore, but rather a stepping stone to my future.
