Professor Chan most likely suscribes to the Nativist theory of language learning. This is a theory that has been defended mainly by language theorist Noam Chomsky. This theory states that children do not learn language exclusively because they imitate others. Instead, children are born with the innate capacity to understand language. Therefore, this is a biologically-based theory.
