"Samuel's memory" is an account of the journey of Samuel Cloud, a Cherokee boy who turned 9 years old while on the Trail of Tears. The text describes the experiences Samuel had to go through after the removal of his family from their land. One of the things that happen to Samuel is the death of his father while they are in the stockades. Samuel tells us that this comes as a shock, and that he struggles to understand what it means.
