Many Northerners began to call for an end to reconstruction because of the Panic of 1873, which subsequent economic depression helped bring Reconstruction to a formal end.

This financial crisis decreased the northern interest in spending more federal funds on the Reconstruction of the South, and further weakened the Republican Party, allowing Democrats to regain the House of Representatives in 1874.

In addition to this, many former abolitionists believed that their purposes had been reached with the passage of the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments and the establishment of the Freedman´s Bureau and Military reconstruction.

lions [1.4K]

Answer:

5 reasons on why the Declaration of Independence was the most influential turning point in American history.

Explanation:

1-The Declaration of Independence signaled the formal beginning of the Revolutionary War, with the Thirteen Colonies separating from Britain.

2- This was the "first" major document that the colonies made together which was their first major step towards being a free country that was separate from Great Britain (England).

3- Because of the signing of this document other countries such as France now saw the colonies as a separate country from England and therefore aided the colonies during the Revolutionary War.

4- Many laws that were attempted to be put in place were n longer valid and were not enforced. These laws included the Sugar Act (1764), the Stamp Tax (1765), the Townshend Acts (1767), and the Tea Act (1773).

5- The Quartering Act (1765), which forced colonists to help pay for the British military stationed in the colonies, was no longer a thing as the colonists now were helping to aid their side of the war.

One of the problems faced by farmers in the late 1800s was that railroads
NNADVOKAT [17]
...Charged very high prices to move farm products to market
The farmers felt the railroads had monopoly power over them. The farmers essentially had no choice but to send their crops to market on trains. There was not much, if any, competition on most short-line tracks that went through farm areas. Therefore, most farmers had to simply accept whatever price railroads charged to transport crops. Farmers felt the railroads could gouge them by charging high prices and that they, the farmers, had no recourse when this happened. They blamed much of their trouble on this monopoly power.
