During this period the U.S. set up a blockade to prevent Russian ships
from passing to Cuba. The U.S. was
alarmed after photos from a spy plane showed Russian missiles on Cuban
soil. This heightened American fears
that Russia would invade through Cuba and use the missile already set up
there. At this point in time, the world
was on the verge of nuclear war. Both
side weighed their options. After a tense period, secret negotiations brought
an end to the conflict. The Russians
withdrew their missiles from Cuba and the U.S. withdrew their missiles from
Turkey.</span>
Passed by Congress June 4, 1919, the 19th amendment granted all women the right to vote. It took many generations to get to this point, but women worked hard. Through making suffrage groups for women, or even marching, women worked to have the right to vote.
Humanism is a big role in this. Humanism is the idea of thinking more about the individual (The things people felt and created were just as important as faith and religion)
Since philosophers were now thinking with humanism influencing them, they thought more about the individual person themselves and their role in society. Unlike earlier thinkers who thought about people as a whole and the Church's role in society. People began to come up with the ideas that the Church is not the answer to everything.
