<span>After extensive travel, Alexis de Tocqueville came to believe that "In no country of the world has the principle of association been more successfully used or applied to a greater multitude of objectives than in America." Alexis de Tocqueville (1805 - 1859) created books in the 19th century to travel in the united states to study and observe the prisoners. His book was named Democracy in America and it focuses on equality and individualism. He was born into an aristocratic family during the time of French revolutionary upheavals and years later, his parents were imprisoned during the reign of terror.</span>
