The earliest known flower arranging dates back to ancient Egypt. Egyptians were decorating with flowers as early as 2,500 BCE. They regularly placed cut flowers in vases, and highly stylized arrangements were used during burials, for processions, and simply as table decorations.
Roman Period Often used heavy and elaborate wreaths, garlands, and flower petals. Used fragrant flowers with bright colors. First use of natural bouquets.
Greek Period: Containers Flower petals were often scattered on the ground during ceremonies. Design types often used were wreaths and garlands. Wreaths made with laurel leaves symbolized allegiance and dedication and were given to champion athletes, poets, civic leaders, and other heros. Bay leaf is used in the crowns. The cornucopia was first introduced during this era. They were carried around. Used a lot of herbs for cooking.
