Answer:

He wanted to reunite the nation without imposing harsh conditions on the South.

Explanation:

After the Civil War, Republicans were divided in their opinions of what they needed to do with the South. Some Republicans believed that the South needed to be severely punished so that they would never repeat something similar again. On the other hand, other Republicans believed this to be unnecessarily harsh, and they would argue this would only mean that the nation would take longer to heal. Lincoln belonged to the second group. He believed that the Union would be permanently damaged if the South was so harshly punished.

The statement that best characterizes President Lincoln's Reconstruction goals would be that "<span>He wanted to reunite the nation without imposing harsh conditions on the South," since he knew that punishment would only delay the reunification of the nation. </span>

BigorU [14]

I don't think it is possible to overstate how significant those ideas were.

That was the time in which the absolutist governments of Europe began to fall, being replaced with Constitutional Monarchies or other representative governments. This led to upheaval in much of Europe as the "old guard" of nations faced revolutions or wars with nations (like France) that wanted to change their own political orders as well.

1. What is the only material good China wanted from Europe before Opium?
Brilliant_brown [7]

Answer:

Americans began shipping opium from Smyrna by 1805. Turkish opium only made up a small part of the total opium imported into China. Opium did not become an important commodity in American trade with China until the 1830s when it made up approximately 1/4 of the total that Americans sold in China.
