George Washington had a hard time recruiting forces for the continental congress. The colonies could not pay a fair salary to the soldiers; moreover, there was no guarantee of victory in a war against England, because the English army was extremely prepared, unlike the American army which was basically made up of unprepared farmers. George Washington ended up forming a poor and disorganized American army, that tried to fight as it could to keep burning the flame of the fight for the independence.
