Answer:

After the civil war, the United States began a rapid process of industrialization, and by the end of the century, it was the world's leading industrial nation.

This industrialization process was possible because of the many technological advancements of the era: the telegraph, the railroad, electricity, steel manufacturing, etc, and also, thanks to the abundance of natural resources in the country: coal, iron ore, oil and abundant farmland.

Factory labor came from both local population and immigrants. From the mid-nineteenth century to the first decades of the twentieth century, around 27 seven million immigrants arrived in the United States, the vast majority from Europe, especially from Germany, Italy and Ireland.

The Germans mostly became farmers, while the Italians and the Irish stayed in the cities and became industrial workers. Another source of labor force were African Americans, who began to migrate from the South to the industrial North after they earned their freedom.

Labor conditions were hard for most people, especially in cities. Many immigrants lived in ethnic enclaves or ghettoes. Poverty and disease were common.

The progressives were a movement who worked to solve these problem sfrom the late 19th century. They sought to reform the laws, modernize the federal government, and end corruption. Worker's unions also formed and fought for labor rights, but many of them were suppressed, sometimes violently.

How would you describe the life of an Irish immigrant in America?
RideAnS [48]

Answer:

Impoverished, segregated, and very poor working conditions.

Explanation:

Irish immigrants lived in poor housing blocks called tenaments and they were isolated from much of the rest of society in terms of where they lived. These tenaments were poorly constructed and disgusting.

The Irish also were used as scabs in factory (meaning they replaced striking workers) or they were chosen outright instead because they were willing to work for less. They were paid little and the conditions were awful and dangerous.

Read the passage below and answer the question that follows: Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl Excerpt from Chapter II. The
BARSIC [14]

Answer: Dr. Flint told the faithful old servant that, under existing circumstances, it was necessary she should be sold.

This line shows the hardships of slaves better than the alternatives. In it, it describes the cruel condition that slaves were subjected to: being publicly sold. It also shows that they were unable to make plans for their future. Moreover, the passage is particularly sad because of the broken promise the mistress had made to the slave, and the woman's inability to regain her freedom.

AlekseyPX
During the American Revolution the way women were affected depended on location. Those unlucky enough to be the path of Major Ferguson or General Tarleton had their houses burned and if they had not gotten out of the way of their armies, they were killed. Some women went hungry.
