Guanosine triphosphate (GTP) is equivalent to ATP. Both can be interconverted and are used as source of energy. During citric acid cycle, GTP is produced in the fifth step of citric acid cycle. It is produced when succinyl CoA is converted to succinic acid. In this reaction CoA is removed and GTP is synthesised from GDP.
