Sensory receptors are involved in receiving stimuli from the external or internal  environment. In this process of reception, the sensory receptors also absorb a small  amount of energy from some stimulus and transduce, or convert, the energy of the stimulus  into electrical signals. Electrical signals represent the information currency of the nervous  system and the process is called sensation. Perception is the conscious awareness of a sensation. The brain organizes and interprets sensation during the perception.  For instance, the primary visual area of the brain visual information and is involved in visual  perception.
