The Dust Bowl was a drought in the 1930's in the United States. This drought caused the Great Plains to be very dry. Okies were people from Oklahoma who had to leave and move to California during this time to find jobs. They could no longer farm since the land was not good for farming anymore. In California, the land was good for farming and had many other jobs that the people from Oklahoma could do. California was not hit as bad as the other parts of the United States by the depression.
