In this article, the word that is an example of connoative language is gripped.

Connotative language is used in a symbolic or figurative way in order to communitcate information as well as feelings or sensations.

In this case, the word gripped is used to express the drastic and lasting effects the drought had in the region in the 70s. Since the drought cannot literally grip anything, the word is used to symbolize its lasting effects in the area.

An example of connotative language in this article is the word gripped. The literal meaning of this verb grip is "to hold or have the ability to hold something tightly". But, the connotation is the use of the meaning implied in a word. By recalling that the last drought gripped the region, the older members were tallking about how strongly they had been affected by it.

2. How is the accusation of Elizabeth different from the ones that come before? What does this mean?
Alisiya [41]

Answer:

The accusation against Elizabeth Proctor is different because it was based on revenge and physical evidence was planted.

Explanation:

The accusation of witchcraft against Elizabeth Proctor in the Crucible is different because Abigail Williams planted evidence against her and at first no one in the community really believed the accusation as Elizabeth Proctor had a good reputation and seemed genuinely Christian. But Abigail planted a poppet doll with pins in Elizabeth's possession and then stuck herself in the abdomen with a pin in order to accuse Elizabeth of witchcraft and to get revenge for John Proctor calling off his affair with Abigail.
