I have not done this in advance.  I'm just going to write it down
and see what I can do with it:

[ 1/(x+3)² - 1/x² ] / 3

Multiply the top and bottom by (x+3)² :

[ 1 - (x+3)²/x² ] / 3 (x+3)²

Multiply the top and bottom by x² :

[ x² - (x+3)² ] / 3 x² (x+3)²

Now it's just a matter of expanding and cleaning things up,
and hope and pray that a lot of things cancel.

Eliminate the parentheses on top and bottom:

[ x² - x² - 6x -9 ] / 3 x² (x² + 6x + 9)

Combine the x² terms on top, and divide top and bottom by 3 :

[ - 2x - 3 ] / x² (x² + 6x + 9)

Finally, all I can make of this is:

- (2x + 3) / [ x(x+3) ]² .

That's not a whole lot prettier than the original form, but at least
we got rid of those fractions in the numerator of a fraction.

I hope this is some help to you.

\frac{\frac{1}{(x+3)^2}-\frac{1}{x^2}}{3}=\frac{1}{3(x+3)^2}-\frac{1}{3x^2}=\frac{x^2}{3x^2(x+3)^2}-\frac{(x+3)^2}{3x^2(x+3)^2}=\frac{x^2-x^2-6x-9}{3x^3(x+3)^2}\\\\=\frac{-6x-9}{3x^2(x+3)^2}=\frac{3(-2x-3)}{3x^2(x+3)^2}=-\frac{2x+3}{x^2(x+3)^2}

3/4 less or greater <br> than 4/12
erastovalidia [21]

Answer:

4/12 simplified is 1/3

3/4 > 1/3

Or, imagine this:

There are 2 pies, watermelons, pizzas, cookies, whatever fits you. One is cut into 4 pieces and the other into 3. You take the one with 4 pieces and your friend take the one with 3. When you finish, there is only 1 quarter left. However, your friend didn't even finish half. Of course, you ate more.

Weird example but who cares...

14.4% of what number is 10.4
Helga [31]
First, convert "of" to x and put this info into an equation:

Let n represent the unknown number.

14.4 % x n= 10.4
              n = 10.4 / 14.4%
              n = 72.22222
              n = ~72

Hope this helps!

The graph below represents taxi fares in the city of Chicago. If a woman travels 8.5 miles by taxi, what would you expect her fa
mariarad [96]

Answer:

C. $22

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given a graph showing the relation between the distance travelled in miles by taxi and the taxi fare.

To find an estimate of how much her taxi fare would be if she travelled 8.5 miles by taxi, simply look 8.5 on the x-axis, then trace it upwards till it meets the line. The point where it meets the line would be the corresponding y-value of x = 8.5.

The point would be (8.5, 22). This means, if the woman travels 8.5 miles, her taxi charges would be approximately $22.

A boat leaves a dock and travels 9 miles due north and 12 miles due west. Find how far the boat is from the dock. Type the corre
adelina 88 [10]

Answer:

15 miles

Step-by-step explanation:

Let's say the dock is at the origin on a coordinate plane and each unit is 1 mile. If the boat travels 9 mile due north, that means that we move up from the origin (0, 0) 9 units to point A (0, 9). Now, this boat moves 12 miles due west, so we will go 12 units to the left of (0, 9) to point B (-12, 9). See the attached drawing (sorry for the crudeness).

Notice that this is a right triangle with legs of 9 and 12. That means the distance from the boat to the dock is just the hypotenuse, so use the Pythagorean Theorem: distance = \sqrt{9^2+12^2} =\sqrt{81+144} =\sqrt{225} =15

Thus, the answer is 15 miles.

Hope this helps!
