Human civilization began to develop significantly during the Neolithic period, which meant that humans began to settle and find out methods of survival, that would enable them to expand their species, and form strong, family units.

Further Explanation:

Agriculture was one of the discoveries that signaled the beginning of settled civilizations, which was a step forward from the hunter-gatherer civilization that humans were subjected to. The development of smaller and sharper stone tools allowed men to loosen soil and sow seeds, which would provide food for all members of the family, clan, and tribe. Gradually, as the system of exchanges developed the growth of surplus or production of food more than the individual requirement.

Growth of surplus meant that humans could devote their time to acquiring other necessary skills that would be otherwise utilized in searching for and procuring food. These skills were in the form of developing pottery, forms, and techniques of architectural styles and securing the borders of the tribe. In a way, the constant source of food supply meant that humans could settle in a particular place, which could necessarily be around a water source to provide for agricultural and farming practices. As civilization progressed, the development of tools along with the use of metals and alloys greatly enhanced cultivation. Humans also discovered the use of manuring to make soil fertile and improve yields. With the production of agricultural surplus, political systems took shape, forming the earliest kingdoms and principalities.
