<span>The advisors to President Roosevelt did not trust Joseph Stalin, however they knew that an alliance with the Soviet Union was the best way to defeat Nazi Germany. From an early point in his presidency Roosevelt was clear about his belief that the USSR was a dictatorship led by an autocrat, commenting on his invasion of Finland with dismay. However because of the situation with Germany he maintained an alliance with Stalin out of necessity. President Roosevelt and his advisors did not trust Stalin as an ally beyond the war.</span>
