Romeo is trying to avoid the conflict, but Tybalt is not having it. He continues to goad Romeo to try and get him angry so he will fight.

Explanation:

Tybalt is extremely arrogant and considers himself unbeatable in fencing. In Romeo and Juliet's act 3, Tybalt insults Romeo, challenging him to a duel of swords, but Romeo avoids this duel because Tybalt is Juliet's cousin and Romeo (who is already married to Juliet) considers him his family.

However, Tybalt continues to insult Romeo and this provokes the wrath of Mercutio (friend of Romeo) who accepts the duel. Romeu witnesses a duel between his friend and Tybalt, at the end of the duel Tybalt kills Mercutio and Romeo, taken by rage, kills Theobald.
