The Tuskegee Airmen were a group of all african american piltos that where trained in Tuskegee and attended university at Alabama, they were the first african americans to enroll on the AAC, they were deployed in North Africa were the territory was occupied by the allies. When they were there they were given second hand airplanes that were slower than their german counter parts which were faster and stronger, this made for a bad look in the military and their commander filed a complain about their performance, to which their captain responded that they were working with bad airplanes, when they knew this, the general sent them to Italy where they served alonside to white pilots and had better planes.
This is true - five hundred msisions were completed by African American pilots in the Army Air Corps during the first year of America's involvement in the war. This was something new that African americans soldiers were pilots who were able and were allowed to fly fighter planes in war.
