Answer:

Russians declined the changes or progress that threatened their privileges and their society is widely controlled by landlords and landowning nobles. Their social structure is also very rigid.

The main chunk of Russians were laborers who are confined to the land and are masters who controlled their fate. The middle class people were too small as a group in order to have an impact or influence any effective changes in their society. The French revolution and the Enlightenment were bringing about liberal and nationalist changes but it didn’t affect the Russian dictatorship.

Stalin referred to the Soviet Union as a republic. Why was this misleading?
vivado [14]
The official definition of a republic is any state that doesn’t have a monarch. That said, republicanism and republics have been closely affiliated with democracy, because the reason most people hated monarchs in the first place, was because they were not elected by the population.
So while Stalin was right on paper, it is quite misleading because it might lead to some people believing Stalinist Soviet Union was democratic, when in fact it was a dictatorship.

Why was Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor such a surprise?
Natalka [10]

Answer:

The conventional wisdom held that the Japanese would try to seize the resources of Southeast Asia and perhaps attack the Philippines. Other analysts predicted an attack on the South Soviet Union. A Pearl Harbor attack was ruled out because it was believed the Japanese lacked the capacity to mount such an operation.
