History

The new direction is probably the non-violent approach that advocated equality through peaceful means such as sit ins or marches. They wanted to show that they are civilized and should be respected, that African-Americans are no different than the white people who were often evil and unjust towards them.

Read 12 Years a Slave, by Solomon Northrup

How many lashes does Epps’ mistress tell Solomon he will get for learning how to read and write?

Answer: 100

Explanation:

When Mistress Epps gave him a list of items to buy from Bartholomew, she noticed that Solomon was able to read. Solomon confesses he can read, but claims he can´t write and seems protective of any information regarding his education. The Mistress then reminded him that he was not to do anything besides the tasks commanded to him, and anything besides that (including reading and writing) would get him one hundred lashes.
