The Harlem Renaissance was an intellectual, social and artistic movement in the 1920s, expanding until 1940s. It was named after Harlem, New York, because it was the place were this movement initially exploded. It was about the racial pride of the African American people, a way to claim their identities in a context of discrimination. With the success of the movement with works such as <em>The Book of American Negro Poetr</em>y in 1922, which was an anthology that featured the work of talented poets, the art of Black people were assimilated by others.
