You have to remember that up until the later part of the 1960s blacks did not have many rights as Americans. separate but equal was the name of the game back then but during ww2 black got the freedom to serve our country and many did. The tesgie airman was a all black fighter squadron during world war 2 and many served on ship with the navy and several all black army battalions were mobilized during this time . but they still were segregated becacuse the still did not have the rights they do today hope this helps
