8 - 4m - 20 = 3m - 27

- 4m - 12 = 3m - 27
+4m          +4m

        - 12 = 7m - 27
        +27          + 27

         15 = 7m

m = 15/7

1. subtract 4 from 8;
4(m+5)=3(m-9)

2. distribute:
4m+20=3m-27

3. subtract 20 to both sides:
4m=3m-47

4. subtract 3m from both sides:
m=-47

32. The length of each side of a square wooden box, in inches, is represented by the expression
dedylja [7]

the length of the box is represented by (8m2)

does that mean 8m^2?

in English that would be 8 times m^2 or 8 * m * m.

if that is true, then the volume of the box would be equal to (8*m^2)^3 which is equal to 8^3 * m^6 which is then simplified further to 512 * m^6 which can also be written as 512m^6.

if we assume that m is 3, then the side of the box is equal to 8 * 9 which is equal to 72 and that is cubed to get 373248.

working that out algebraically, it would look like this:

(8*3^2)^3 equals 8^3 * (3^2)^3 which is equal to 8^3 * 3^6 which is equal to 512 * 729 which is equal to 373248

Solve 7|3f + 4| = 91 for f. A. –29 or 312⁄3 B. 3 or –17⁄3 C. –3 or 17⁄3 D. –312⁄3 or 29
ryzh [129]

Answer:

B

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

7 | 3f + 4 | = 91 ← divide both sides by 7

| 3f + 4 | = 13

The absolute value function always returns a positive value, but the expression inside can be positive or negative. Thus there are 2 possible solutions.

Solve 3f + 4 = 13 → 3f = 13 - 4 = 9 ⇒ f = 3

Solve 3f + 4 = - 13 ⇒ 3f = - 13 - 4 = - 17 ⇒ f = - \frac{17}{3}

As a check

Substitute these values into the left side of the equation and if equal to the right side then they are the solutions.

f = 3 : 7| 9 + 4| = 7| 13| = 7 × 13 = 91 ← True

f = - \frac{17}{3}

7 | - 17 + 4| = 7| - 13| = 7 × 13 = 91 ← True

Hence the correct solutions are B
