He listened quietly, staring off into space, and I assumed he was collecting his thoughts for an answer, but a few minutes later

he cleared his throat and shook his head. That, he explained apologetically, was outside his area of specialization. His interest was in interest rates, and he hadn't given military economics much thought. He suggested I see Dr Wessey, who once did a paper on War Trade Agreements during World War II. He might be able to help me. Before I could say anything else, he grabbed my hand and shook it. He had been glad to meet me, but there were some notes he had to assemble for a lecture. And then he was gone.

Read the excerpt from The Canterbury Tales.
Brums [2.3K]

The statement that best describes the satire in the excerpt is:

 • Chaucer criticizes the notion that divine forgiveness depends on giving money.

What is satire?

Satire is the act of criticizing a bad situation or event using humorous lines of reasoning. This is exactly what Chaucer accomplishes in this excerpt.

He criticized the materialistic aspect of religion where many thought that God was impressed by their financial donations and would thus overlook their sins. In a humorous manner, Chaucer tells the people to come with their gold and have their sins forgiven.

Perris drafts this paragraph for his analysis
Lilit [14]

The correct answer is C. Perris quotes textual evidence that supports his thesis.

The analysis Parris is trying to make is that it's difficult to decipher the Rosetta Stone. To support this idea, he uses details from the text to explain how difficult it is - by mentioning scholars that have failed, despite their varying methods.
