In the beginning White Settlers got along with Native Americans in order to create a steady trade system. Once they realized that the Native Americans trusted them they would create contracts. Many leaders would go against their tribe and make a deal with the settlers. Although they started as allies the Settlers slowly started making sly moves. Multiple Natives became enslaved. Some Native Tribes soon began adopting in other natives from other tribes that had been killed.

Eventually more settlers came and they needed more space. On May 28, 1830, Andrew Jackson's removal policy granted Jackson the authority to "give" the unsettled lands west of the Mississippi in exchange for Indian Lands within existing state borders. In 1838 and 1839 The Cherokee nation was forced to give up  its lands east of the Mississippi River to migrate to an area we now call Oklahoma. This is later known as the trail of tears.
