Susan B. Anthony devoted her life's work to gaining suffrage for women. She even got congressional consideration of a Constitutional amendment in 1878, but had little support for her goal at this early date. Anthony worked before the Progressive Movement gained steam, but the groundwork she laid for the women's suffrage movement helped make it a reality in 1920.
