The system of slavery on plantations has a major effect because slaves were obviously not paid which allowed the farmers to produce the goods for much cheaper allowing them to spend more money on luxury goods such as houses and foreign goods it also created new businesses such as the traders who captured the slaves in their native land and shipped them across seas
