Answers with Explanations:

1. In the story "On the Rainy River," O'Brien states how the Rainy River separated one life for him from another. Explain why.

The "Rainy River" is the river that separated Minnesota from Canada.

If O'Brien stays in Minnesota, he will definitely have to go to war and won't be able to pursue what he wanted. On the contrary, if he flees to Canada, he will die of shame because people will be gossiping about his cowardice and he will also lose the respect of his family.

Going to the Rainy River made him realize what mattered to him the most and that was, the honor of his family. So, in the end, he went to war.

2. Is there anything in your life that you can think of as a point that separates two parts of your life?

At one point in my life, I was torn between two choices, to follow what my father wanted (to become an accountant) or to follow my dream (to become a nurse).

I was terribly confused which path to follow. If I followed my father's will, I'd be able to make him proud and happy, but I won't be able to fulfill my dream. If I followed my own will, my father would not be pleased and this would cause arguments between both of us , but I'd be happier because I followed what I wanted.

In the end, I followed both. I studied Accountancy to become an Accountant and later on, pursue to become a nurse. I am now working, happily, as a nurse.
