Answer:

The middle term in the sequence is 12.

Arithmetic mean of the sequence is x  = 12

Step-by-step explanation:

Here, three consecutive terms in the AP  are 8 , x , 16.

Now, if and three a, b , c terms are in an arithmetic progression.

⇒  b -a  =  Common difference (d)   = c - b

Similarly here, 8 , x , 16 are in AP.

⇒   x  - 8  =  16 - x  = Common difference d

or, x + x  = 16 + 8

or, 2 x = 24

⇒  x =  24/2    = 12

or , x   = 12

Hence, the middle term in the sequence is 12.

Also, arithmetic mean of 8, 12, 16  = \frac{\textrm{Sum of observations}}{\textrm{Number of observations}}

⇒ \frac{8+ 12+ 16}{3}   = \frac{36}{3} = 12

Arithmetic Mean  = 12

What are the solutions of the quadratic equation? 4x^2+34x+60=0
insens350 [35]

Answer:

Option 3) -6,-5/2

Step-by-step explanation:

we know that

The formula to solve a quadratic equation of the form

ax^{2} +bx+c=0

is equal to

x=\frac{-b(+/-)\sqrt{b^{2}-4ac}} {2a}

in this problem we have

4x^{2} +34x+60=0

so

a=4\\b=34\\c=60

substitute in the formula

x=\frac{-34(+/-)\sqrt{34^{2}-4(4)(60)}} {2(4)}

x=\frac{-34(+/-)\sqrt{196}} {8}

x=\frac{-34(+/-)14} {8}

x_1=\frac{-34(+)14} {8}=-\frac{20}{8}=-\frac{5}{2}

x_2=\frac{-34(-)14} {8}=-6

Two cyclist leave towns 75moles apart at the same time and travel towards each other. One cyclist travels 7 mph faster than the
GaryK [48]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Givens

d1 = d

d2 = 75 - d

r1 = x

r2 = x + 7

t = 3

Equation

x*t + (x + 7)*t = 75

This equation represents the total distance travelled. Neither one of the cyclists have gone 75 miles, but they both have gone distances that equal a total of 75 miles.

Solution

3x + (x + 7)*3 = 75

3x + 3x + 21 = 75

6x + 21 = 75

6x = 54

6x/6 = 54/6

x = 9

Answer

The first cyclist is going 9 miles / hr

The second cyclist is going 16 miles / hour

Aneli [31]

Answer:

x=−7

Step-by-step explanation:

(x+4)(2)−3(x+4)−3=0

(x)(2)+(4)(2)+(−3)(x)+(−3)(4)+−3=0(Distribute)

2x+8+−3x+−12+−3=0

(2x+−3x)+(8+−12+−3)=0(Combine Like Terms)
