How does the Three-Fifths Compromise impact a state's representation in Congress?

History
1 answer:
hodyreva [135]3 years ago
3 0

Explanation:

Prior to the compromise, slaves were not counted when totalling the number of people in each state. The House of Representatives (part of Congress) gives each state a certain amount of representatives based on the state's population. If a state has more people, they receive more representatives. By adding in the slaves to the count of the population, the distribution for representatives in the House shifted. Southern states received more representation than before. With more representation comes more power for individual states. As a result, the Three-Fifths Compromise impacted a state's representation in Congress drastically.

Which group support a strong central government. Federalist or anti- federalist
Sindrei [870]
Federalists supported a strong central government. They wanted to give a lot of power to the national government and not a lot of power to the states. On the other hand, the antifederalist wanted to give more power to the states because they feared that giving a lot of power to the federal government would create an oppressive monarchy like the one they had just escaped after winning the Revolutionary War against Great Britain.
