Colon is one of the punctuation which is used to:

1. Lay emphasis

Example: He loved just one: Bruno, his dog

2. To present dialogue ( we write the name of the speaker and then insert colon followed by his/her dialogue.)

Example: Rita: How are you?

Mary: Fine, and you?

3. Clarify composition titles ( to explain parallel ideas colon is used in compositions like lectures or book titles), and

Example: Rousseau’s Dog: Two Great Thinkers at War in the Age of Enlightenment

4. To introduce text or lists.

Example: Three types of Subordinate or Dependent Clauses are: Adjective clause, Adverb clause and Noun clause

Hence, two sentences which uses the colon correctly is :

C) Jessica's supplies for the trip included these items: a hairbrush, moisturizer, a toothbrush, and four bottles of mineral water.

D) Annette left her hometown with just one goal in mind: to see the world and experience different cultures.

Both the sentences introduces the list of items and things in the text. Hence, it uses the colon appropriately.

Why is flowery language appropriate for a poem?
Korolek [52]

Flowery language consists in a very ornate and elaborated way of writing (and speaking) being contrary to the simple form of the language. In poetry, this kind of language works well due to the fact that it serves to create a more complex atmosphere and cause different sensations to the reader. Also, it beautifies the figure of the poet and the poem as a whole, making the author look like a virtuoso of the language.

Why did the soldiers take sergeant stubby to the battle fields with them
artcher [175]

Answer:

He led disoriented soldiers back to the trenches. Once, Stubby himself got lost, but French troops found and returned him. When German prisoners marched through Stubby’s camp, the fierce little dog had to be restrained so he wouldn’t attack them.

Sergeant Stubby wearing his coat and medals.

With all the dangers at the front, injury was perhaps inevitable for this canine soldier. During an attack, Stubby inhaled mustard gas, which required medical treatment. Later, Stubby recognized danger during another gas attack. He roused soldiers from sleep and likely saved many lives.
