Under the new deal program, Franklin Roosevelt vowed to turn
around the economy by using the power of the federal government to get the
country out of the depression. In the first days of Roosevelt's administration he
presided over the passage of banking reform laws, emergency relief programs,
work relief programs, and agricultural programs.
