Vicksburg campaign of 1863 was a major military action against the Confederacy by the Union Army of Tennessee. Vicksburg was a stronghold for the confederates on the Mississippi River and thus it was important to capture by the Union Army of Tennessee. General major S. Grant crossed the Mississippi River and put the Confederate in a defensive position around the fort of Vicksburg. Two major assaults were charged on the fortification of Confederate but with little success. Then S.Grant besiege the fort for forty days to cut off the supply and communication and the result was the surrender of Confederates.
