The major events that led to worldwar two was that hitler had attacked poland ( or was it austria or hungary) and that sparked a war between them. I think someone from austria died a royal and that sparked it as well. The rising tension between germany and the other countries after ww1 also accounted for it.

The United States remained neutral. Yes it was a good decision because if they would have picked a side they most likely would've been pulled into the war. Remaining neutral in most cases of war keeps you out of danger, unless an attacking country attacks you first, pulling you into the war. (Like Japan attacking America, bringing them into WW2)
