along with what you read in Chapter 12, explain why you think the train ride is particularly difficult for Shmuel to talk about.
FrozenT [24]
When Shmuel recounts his journey on the train, he describes a horrible situation, which was completely different from Bruno's experience on his train ride. Shmuel tells Bruno that the cars were overcrowded to the point that passengers could not breathe. In contrast, Bruno recalls that there were two trains at the station when he left Berlin and naively believes that Shmuel boarded the wrong train. Even though Shmuel tries to explain to Bruno that the train he boarded had no doors, Bruno contradicts Shmuel and does not understand why Shmuel had such a negative experience on the train. Bruno and Shmuel's different perspectives are significant because they depict the contrast between those in authority (Nazis) and those in subjugation (Jews). Since Bruno is a German Nazi, he is treated with respect and enjoys a relatively comfortable train ride. In contrast, the Jewish prisoners, like Shmuel, were subjected to the horrible conditions of the tightly packed cattle cars that took them to concentration camps. Their differing perspectives further illuminates the difference in their backgrounds and situations. Despite Bruno and Shmuel's drastically different circumstances, the two boys become close friends.

Which of the following types of edits to direct quotes is inappropriate? (5 points)
dlinn [17]

Answer:

The type of edit to direct quotes which is inappropriate is the following one:

Correcting errors in the quote.

Explanation:

If it is a direct quote, it is supposed to be as genuine as possible, that is, the essence of what was said by that particular person must be kept, and that includes not only what was said, but also how it was said- errors and all.

Eg: Let's say you want to quote Joker (played by Heath Ledger in "The Dark Knight") and you write:

As said by Joker: "Why are you so serious?"

In the example above, the essence of the original quote was lost, since the omission of verb and subject (Why so serious?) was what gave the classic quote its mysterious charm. So, it is best to keep it the way it actually is:

As said by Joker: "Why so serious?"

In The Tempest, Prospero attempts to restore himself after losing his
tia_tia [17]

Answer:

A. The fickle nature of justice and the desire for control over others.

Explanation:

William Shakespeare's "The Tempest" revolves around the story of Prospero and his daughter 'exiled' to an island and forcibly removed from his dukedom. The story delves into the themes of power dynamics, the struggle for authority, love, enslavement, and class structure.

After his dukedom was taken by his brother, Prospero exhibited the need to have power over others by enslaving Caliban and Ariel through manipulation, deception, and charm. This shows how human is so desirous of having some form of control over others and the fickleness of what is just.

Thus, the correct answer is option A.
