How to write a piecewise function with two absolute value?

Mathematics

Basically, a piecewise function is two different functions that meet at a certain point on a graph, such as x=2 as the meeting point, the first function has to be to the left of two(less then two)... the second number has to be to the right of two (greater than two) you can make one of the components equal to 2 if you would like to make your function continuous an just plug in the absolute value instead of the linear equation when you do an abs.

A factory wants to fill a conical storage tank with sand. The tank has a height of 19.5 meters and a diameter of 30.7 meters
taurus [48]

9514 1404 393

Answer:

  4,811.49 m³

Step-by-step explanation:

The volume of a cone is computed using the formula ...

  V = (1/3)πr²h

Using the given numbers, we find the volume to be ...

  V = (1/3)π(15.35 m)²(19.5 m) = 1531.54625π m³ ≈ 4,811.49 m³

_____

<em>Additional comment</em>

If you inappropriately use 3.14 for π, you get a volume of 4809.06 m³. That 3-digit value is inappropriate because a value accurate to 6 significant figures or more is needed to support an answer accurate to 6 significant figures.

Which is the equation of a line that has a slope of 1/2 and passes through point (2, -3)?
Varvara68 [4.7K]

Start with the point-slope formula: y-k = m(x-h), where (h,k) is the given point and m is the given slope:

y+3 = (1/2)(x-2)

This equation can be rewritten in other forms if desired.

Use the Babylonian method of false position to solve the following
Mice21 [21]

Answer:

  • length: 32
  • width: 24

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>Assume a solution</u>

Assume that 60 is the length. The width is then 1/4 less, or 60 -60/4 = 45.

The diagonal of this rectangle is found using the Pythagorean theorem:

  d = √(60² +45²) = √5625 = 75

<u>Make the adjustment</u>

This is a factor of 75/40 larger than the actual diagonal, so the actual dimensions must be 40/75 = 8/15 times those we assumed.

  length = (8/15)×60 = 32

  width = (8/15)×45 = 24

The length and width of the rectangle are 32 and 24, respectively.

_____

<em>Comment on this solution method</em>

This method is suitable for problems where variables are linearly related. If we were concerned with the area, for example, instead of the diagonal, we would have to adjust the linear dimensions by the <em>square root</em> of the ratio of desired area to "false" area.
