The opening of an argument is important because this is where you will grab the attention of your audience.  In addition to that, in the opening is where you’ll provide some background information that lays the foundation for you to make your claim.  It is with this attention getter and background information that you’ll build a rapport with your audience then follow it up with your thesis statement that tells them your points/arguments in the order you will present them.
