The Dust Bowl started in 1930 when severe drought started to hit the regions and in 1931 massive dust storms began to happen. By 1934 an estimated 35 million acres of formerly cultivated land had been rendered useless for farming, while another 125 million acres was rapidly losing its topsoil. The Dust killed many livestock and other animals that got in its way. The people living in the Dust Bowl areas were starting to escape the dust and go to California to start a new life.
