Neumatic notation was later used in medieval music to indicate certain patterns of rhythm called rhythmic modes, and eventually evolved into modern musical notation. Neumatic notation remains standard in modern editions of plainchant. The earliest Western notation for chant appears in the ninth century.

I think maybe it’s all about from the perspective that the apple sees. to the human eye we see a room first, and then see the details, the first thing i saw when looking at this was the apple. it shows the perspective and the things we find more ‘important’ pop out to us first. So although it may seem strange the apple is the focal point.
