Given that she just moved to America, she can't expect to become an American right away. It will take her some time to get accustomed to her new country and to start feeling like home. Since this is just the beginning, she hasn't reached that stage yet.

Catholic missionaries infact destroyed all but four of their sacred bark-paper books in the 16th century.
