Art before the reformation was largely patron by the Catholic church and wealthy class in Europe. With the introduction and invention of the printing press in Europe by Johannes Gutenberg in mid-1400 increased its importance in society. The printing press led to a change in the culture and ideas in Europe. The printing press helped ordinary people to get access to the Bible in different languages which were earlier only available in Latin and permitted only to clergies and church authorities.
