The fallacy of <em>logos</em> is "the last time it rained, our local sports team won. It is raining today, so they will win tonight". It's logos because in order to persuade a target audience it uses a statement empowered by logic. The logical reasoning suggests that if the last time the match was played was raining and they won, now that it's raining again, the will win again. The logical thought is that <em>when it rains, the local team wins.</em>

The fallacy of <em>pathos</em> is "If we don't pass this environmental protection bill now, the world will probably end soon". It's pathos because this fallacy tries to persuade by provoking certain emotions or feelings to readers. In this way, the statement is more appalling to the reader and it feels more emotionally attached to it. By talking about the end of the world, the writer is<em> </em><em>trying to evoke feelings of awareness, sorrow and frightening.</em> So by provoking these feelings, <em>readers may become more aware and concerned</em> about the environmental changes that the human kind needs to make now in order to prevent the complete destruction of our world.

The fallacy of <em>ethos</em> is "My favorite teacher said that we should vote for Mr.Martinez, so I believe he is the best". It's ethos because the writer is convincing people by the credibility or authority of the speaker. In this case, the teacher represents a credible and respectful figure. So the reader <em>decides to vote for whom the teacher said just because THE teacher said that.</em>

Read this excerpt from The American Plague: The True and Terrifying Story of the Yellow Fever Epidemic of 1793.
babymother [125]

Answer:

Option D

Explanation:

I silently counted on my fingers: twenty-eight days until the end of September, then on into October until the first frost. Frost always killed fever. Mr. Carris said it drained the poison from the air. This referenced the idea that the frost would kill the epidemic.

<em>Most doctors had predicted the fever would end when the cold weather returned.Almost all epidemics followed the same pattern,... disappearing with the first hard frost.</em>

<em>Daniel Defoe, in recording the end of the Black Death that visited London in 1665, wrote that "the winter weather came ,most of those that had fallen sick recovered, and the health of the city began to return."</em>

Why did Mr. Jamison make an unexpected visit to the Logan’s house in Chapter 9? A:to say he would no longer back their store cre
olchik [2.2K]

Answer: D: to warn them that tensions in town were escalating

Explanation:

In the book Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry, Mr Jamieson, a white lawyer who is sympathetic to the black families in the south, comes to David Logan to warn him about tensions rising in town due to the boycott of the Wallace store which was run by the racist and violent Wallace brothers.

David Logan and his family had led a boycott of the Wallace General store such that black people stopped shopping there and began shopping at Vicksburg instead.

This started ruining the business of the Wallace store and this led to one of the brothers, Thomas Wallace, telling people he was going stop the purchasing from Vicksburg. Mr Jamieson upon hearing this, came to tell David (Papa) about the rising tension in the town.
