Answer:

The Missouri Compromise of 1820 ended a debate over which states would support slavery. Missouri would be admitted as a slave state and Maine would be a free state. If states were north of Missouri’s southern boundary they would be free. New Mexico (and Arizona), according to the Compromise of 1820, would be admitted as slave states, when they applied for statehood. But according to the Compromise of 1850, New Mexico, Arizona and Utah could decide for themselves. Other territories in the Louisiana Purchase also wanted to chose. Especially Kansas and Nebraska.

The compromise of 1850 contradicted the Missouri Compromise of 1820 by creating a free state south of 36°30'N. According to the Missouri Compromise, Missouri would enter as a slave state, Maine would join as a free state, and slavery would be prohibited in any new state north of Missouri's southern border, 36°30'N latitude

Why might Rome along with Greece and<br> Egypt be described as part of the Mediterranean world?
Nezavi [6.7K]
The majority of the Roman empire is located around the Mediterranean, and their capitol, Rome, was located in Italy close the the Mediterranean Sea, thus by location they are part of the Mediterranean world. If you look at a map of the Roman Empire it might help explain their location on the shores of the Mediterranean.

Why was it illegal for a slave to read and write? and what would happen if they get caught?
Art [367]

Answer:

Fearing that black literacy would prove a threat to the slave system -- which relied on slaves' dependence on masters -- whites in many colonies instituted laws forbidding slaves to learn to read or write and making it a crime for others to teach them.

In most southern states, anyone caught teaching a slave to read would be fined, imprisoned, or whipped. The slaves themselves often suffered severe punishment for the crime of literacy, from savage beatings to the amputation of fingers and toes.
