<span>Jules Ferry wanted to explore and expand the French colonies in order to create an empire for economical benefits. To put it frank, he wanted to take everything he could from Africa so that he could achieve this goal. He believed he was of a superior race and it was his duty, and because of this he took control of many different areas in Africa.</span>
Every major city in Georgia had a military installation of some sort. The world's largest infantry training school in the world was at Fort Benning in Columbus. The US Navy trained its 2,000 pilots in the University of Georgia in Athens, and hundreds of thousands of enlisted men made their way to Hunter Field and Camp Gordon. Up to 13,000 civilians were employed in Robin's Field. Defense contractors moved to Georgia and provided jobs to civilians and helped the state in its economic recovery. As many as 28,000 workers were hired to build B-29 bombers by Marietta's Bell Aircraft plant.
