In myocardial infarction, blood flow is blocked in the heart, causing a heart attack to occur.

In cardiac arrest, the heart malfunctions and causes the heart to stop beating unexpectedly.

You can think of a myocardial infarction (MI) as a circulation issue, whereas cardiac arrest is an electrical issue.
