The voters did not manage to give an electoral majority to any candidate in 1824, thus the House of Representatives had to choose a president from among the top three candidates. After a while, there appeared a new method of nominating presidential candidates that involves wider participation but usually left control in the hands of party leaders.
The rise of christianity in the Roman Empire was different to that of medieval Europe.
In the Roman Empire, christians were persecuted at the beginning and very slowly increased the amount of people who believed in their god. However, as time passed, more and more people identified themselves as belonging to the christian religion.
In medieval Europe on the other hand, christianity became popular much faster, as there was not that much opposition, compared to the times of Roman empire.
On a smaller scale, as U.S. merchants began to stop at many of the Pacific Islands to replenish supplies and acquire goods to trade with Chinese merchants, the U.S. Government appointed consuls to several of these places. U.S. expansion across the Pacific fundamentally changed the global position of the United States.
