Literacy tests, grandfather clauses, and poll taxes

were enacted by the Southern States to restrict the voting rights of African Americans. (2)

Further Explanations:

The flourishing economy of the United States attracted many refugees. The immigrant arrived in the United States either in search of religious independence or in search of employment. This sudden wave of numerous immigrants created havoc in the nation and led to the rise of slavery as immigrants were willingly accepting the slavery. This worsened the condition of the slaves. The situation remained the same until the Civil war era when initiatives were taken to put end to slavery.

Voting Right act of United States in the Federal legislation implemented by President Lyndon B. Johnson during the civil rights movement is one of the initiatives to provide equal status to the Black Americans. The act laid importance on the ban of racial prejudice during voting. The act guaranteed by the Fourteenth and 15th Amendments of the constitution of the United States gave Blacks.

Poll tax, Literacy tax, and grandfather clauses were some laws that were still limiting the voting authority of the blacks and were also preventing them to enjoy free privileges.

The correct answer is (2)

Literacy tests - Quite a big number of blacks and whites were illiterate . White officials however claimed that illiterate whites could understand what was being read to them and thus were justified to vote, whereas illiterate blacks, so the claim went, could not understand what was being read to them and so were barred from voting.

Grandfather clause - this clause said even though illiterate ad without property, one could still vote if their grandfather voted before 1867. No blacks could vote before 1867 and so the rule worked only for whites.

Poll tax - with a poll tax equivalent to between $25 to $50 in today's money no black could afford it and so they were automatically excluded from voting.

harkovskaia [24]
Many whites wanted Indian land, and knew it would be easier to gain if the Indian tribes disappeared. With that statement appeared the Dawes Act, also known as the General Allotment Act, in February 1887. A scheme was soon developed for Indians that would allow individual Indians to own land for private use, and the Indians would be converted into capitalists.
